i found time to take the bus home this past one week. it's a far more real experience than taking a cab (20 bucks a pop nowadays) and i've managed to sneak in a few pages of whichever book i'm bringing around on the ride.
the interesting thing about the bus i take home is that it caters to two very distinct groups of people - in a very real sense the two extreme layers prevalent today in this city. there's the 'ang mors' (lao wais) hopping on, as well as the geylang crowd. i've got no specific thoughts on this, but i just figured that it goes beyond a potent symbol of globalization, but perhaps a reminder of the increasing stratification of society as we know it today.
i wonder whether, by moving forward, i'm beginning to forget the past.
