was pleasantly surprised that we actually have architecture of note in singapore, after seeing an advert in the papers today (mon 2nd feb) of the church of st. mary of the angels (note: you have to see the advert for yourself!).

i was thinking that architecture in singapore was going the way of japan; some years ago, i think in 2000/01, a jap architect mentioned that nearly every single new building in japan could be torn down without much loss, and made some comparison to them being as dust. isn't it the same for all the new condos and office buildings here? we don't have anything really striking like paris, london, barcelona or sydney that really defines us as a nation, structurally. at best we have 2 very forlorn looking durian husks sitting on the riverside...
